Inside Occupy LA…… OLA and Staff Threatened by Outside Push-Cart Food Vendors NOT the LAPD!!

Story and Photos By Larry Alger of the WallstreetSwindler.Com

As previously reported, the OLA staff has been working with the LA County Health Department to defend the continuity of the Food Tent. Everyone on site agrees that the occupation will suffer tremendously if the people on the lawns cannot get SOMETHING to eat there at City Hall. Citizens of So Cal (reportedly as far away as Riverside about 70 miles away) have brought in donations of food to keep the movement fed. Yes, there have been growing pains (more on that in another report) and LAC Health, like the City of Los Angeles and the LAPD has worked with them to support this First Amendment demonstration. Those that have stepped up to take on this challenge have done an awesome job so far.

But let’s face it folks, the law IS the LAW and the law requires that the LAC Health Department work with a responsible party both in the permit and operation processes. The person who has stepped up the farthest has been a wonderful lady named Michelle. Michelle IS living in a tent there on the lawn. She is, in her own words, “Down For The Cause”!

But if the numerous push-cart based street food vendors continue to descend on the crowds it could be all for naught. In fact, if these folks with makeshift hotdog and other food carts are not moved out of the occupation areas, including the adjacent sidewalks, to neutral corners or across the streets, and the LAC Health Department presumes them to be part of the OLA Food Tent operations, $5,000 fines could be soon flying at Michelle.

Remember folks, she is living there in a tent and the possibility of her paying ANY levy, whether just or unreasonable, is in the realm of not slim but none. That is why she and her crew have busted their butts to be in compliance for all the regulations that have come down from LAC Health. Beside none of the Food Tent Crew want to see ANYONE get sick from anything they hand out, even if it IS ALL FOR FREE!

Up to today Michelle’s crew and security volunteers have done there best to move these makeshift businesses down the road as the show up, but it is not an easy thing to do. These people want to defend their turf and at one point this afternoon it got real heated. The series of photos below shows AND explains exactly what went down. This reporter asks ALL of LA to support the Occupation. Please do not undermine it in search of a quick few bucks. I hope the authorities that the entire staff has been working with will support the occupation as fully, and with understanding of the circumstances, that the City Council has. Thanks LA for being the absolute non-violent face of the Occupy Wall Street Movement in America!

Here’s what went down:
