PENNSYLVANIA MAN PLEADS TO BANK ROBBERY

A resident of West Newton, Pa., pleaded guilty in federal court to a charge of bank robbery, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.

Mark Zabielski, 34, pleaded guilty to one count before United States District Judge Nora Barry Fischer.

In connection with the guilty plea,  the court was advised that on or about Dec. 9, 2009, Zabielski robbed PNC Bank, located at 200 East Main Street, West Newton, Pa., of $4,767.00.

Judge Fischer scheduled sentencing for July 28, 2011, at 11:00 a.m.  The law provides for a total sentence of 20 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both.  Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed is based upon the seriousness of the offense and the criminal history, if any, of the defendant.

Assistant United States Attorney Barbara K. Swartz is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
